Sony US is currently offering an $80 savings on any of their T-series Ultrabooks, which includes the T13 and T14, when you upgrade to a Core i7 processor.
The T13 and T14 Ultrabooks start at a very reasonable $669, but that’s with a Core i3 processor which lacks Turbo Boost, a feature of Intel’s processors which dynamically increases the CPU clock speed based on system demand. Turbo Boost is only available on i5 and i7 processors. Sony is currently offering an $80 discount on upgrades to the Core i7-3517U.
We generally recommend that you upgrade to a Core i5 processor if possible to get the Turbo Boost functionality, but in this case you may want to splurge for the Core i7 which can Turbo Boost up to 3GHz! You can see a technical comparison of the three processors Sony offers on the T-series here.
Sony usually asks for an extra $220 to go from the Core i3 to the Core i7, but for a limited time it’ll only be $140. That means you can get a T13 or T14 with a Core i7 processor starting at $809 which is a pretty solid deal. Sony also offers upgrades from 4GB of RAM to 6GB or 8GB for $30 or $80 respectively, meaning you can get a T13 or T14 with i7 and max RAM (8GB) for $889, not bad!
In my hands-on with the T13 I said I was “quite impressed with the T13. Aesthetically it ranks in my top 3 Ultrabooks and yet it is one of the cheapest in the market.”
It’s unclear how long Sony is running this promotion for. If we’re lucky, they’ll have even more Black Friday Ultrabook savings as we approach that day next week!
